Community

The festival is all about the Farmers and recognition of their hard work which helps to ensure the future of the Dales for years to come. There is already great cooperation from such people who are supporting the event and giving up the use of their land for the day. Other local people are also offering their skills and help in lots of other ways, in order to make this event a huge success, such as the expertise being offered in the areas of information technology, public relations, design and print.

One of the main aims of this Festival, is to encourage community cohesion. As the organisation of this event gathers pace, this is already evident in the way local people, both up and down the Dale, can be seen working together. The children from Kettlewell School are busy working on an exhibition all about wool, the whole village has been taken over by ‘pom pom’ mania, together with a secret knitter of mice in yellow jerseys, with an ever expanding flock.

Without the help and support of the local communities within Upper Wharfedale this festival would not be going ahead. Subsequently the organisers would like to say a big thank you to all those involved, as this shows to others how rural communities can work together and ultimately contribute to the sustainability of the Yorkshire Dales.
