Sports, Fun Events & Displays

The organisers of the festival aim to make this a great fun day out for the whole family.

Children can be entertained as they experience feeding lambs and cuddling mini donkeys. They can have their face painted as a sheep and if they come along dressed as a May King or Queen, they can enter the competition to be crowned King and Queen of Kettlewell. There will also be a variety of children’s games to take part in.

Adult teams can test their strength in a Tug of War or may want to take part in hay bale racing or rolling a barrel. There will be nothing too serious, just the opportunity to test your agility and coordination whilst having lots of fun. This could be something a little silly such as wellie and cap throwing.

Children’s prizes kindly donated by Whitakers Chocolates

Penny Plain Theatre Company at Kettlewell May Festival

Morris Dancing - Penny Plain Theatre Company

11.30am approx, around the village Maypole

Based in Grassington, a beautiful village in the Yorkshire Dales, we tour the country with our custom built version of a Victorian travelling theatre booth. Showcasing talents from a breathtaking rapper sword dance to a maypole shambles, with harmony singing, traditional folk anthems and summer spirit – of the alcoholic kind of course – the show transports the audience to a bucolic Victorian summer. Lasting around half an hour, the show includes several songs, dances and a mummers play, with a healthy dose of audience interaction.
